Also called Sunflower Hearts, Hulled Sunflower Seed is a popular choice among birders. A wonderful source of fat, fibre, protein, and vitamins, Hulled Sunflower seeds are excellent for all frequent flyers. Without having to husk the seed, birds, especially our small feathered friends, are drawn to the easy refuel provided by the Hulled Sunflower seeds. Birders don't have to worry about the clean up of the husks because there aren't any! Any seeds that fall onto the ground are bound to be gobbled up by the ground feeding birds.
You may want to use a feeder with a bit more protection from bully birds (American Crow, Blue Jays, Brown-headed Cowbird to name a few). Large hopper feeders are ideal as they allow for more birds to be able to flock and feed, deterring the bullying behaviour. Just make sure your feeder is covered as Hulled Sunflower seed can spoil faster because it doesn't have the shell to protect it. Tube feeders, and Squirrel Baffle feeders are also an amazing choice for Hulled Sunflower seed.
