This nutrient-dense snack is perfect for so many different types of birds! Black Oil Sunflower seeds are cultivated to have a higher fat content, making them especially good during breading season and winter weather. The thin shells make them much easier to crack open, creating less effort for our feathered friends.
Being meatier, more nutritious, and easier to eat, it's no surprise that Black Oil Sunflower seeds are the most poplar bird food. Even if it's not a favourite amongst all birds, they will generally still sample the seed.
Black Oil Sunflower seeds can get a little messy with the cracked husks often falling to the ground. They are best served in a hopper, platform, or tray feeder however, there are also some tube feeders that can house the seed. For our ground feeding friends, just sprinkle some directly onto the ground and watch them flock!
